I read my first visual novel about half a year ago and although I didn't like it a lot, it gave me the idea that maybe I could make a story like that.
I am a big fan of K-Pop music (mostly the girl bands) and this was my starting point of inspiration. I just wanted to do something to express my love for K-Pop.
My initial idea was to make a story based on a number of videoclips from different bands. I simply copied many parts of those videoclips and then wrote a story with them. I first used "Watch me move" by Uhm Jung-Hwa and "Bar Bar Bar" by Crayon Pop. The next one was "I go crazy because of you" by T-ara. That one was a turning point and the first scene in class in my novel is still inspired by that videoclip. When I finished making a story based on that clip, I felt like I wanted to continue in the same direction and that it would be easier if I would stick with the same band. I started thinking about the origin of the characters involved and I added more videoclips from T-ara (Roly Poly, Lovey Dovey, What's my name, Number Nine, Day by Day, Like the first time). All these videoclips kept inspiring me to continue building all kinds of situations and dialogues in which the story could develop.
I realized that making a visual novel with copyrighted material, even when suggested as fan fiction, would be risky if I was going to share it with others, so eventually I started making my own art.
The story now is not related to K-Pop at all, but most characters are inspired by K-Pop bands. This also helps me to stay motivated.
